London – Govinda’s Vegetarian Restaurant

Our aim is to provide fresh, nutritious meals at affordable prices. We serve a wide variety of pure vegetarian cuisine which is freshly cooked on the premises throughout the day. All of our products are meat, fish and egg free with many dishes suitable for vegans too. We do not use onions, garlic or mushrooms. When you walk into the restaurant , you are amidst an oasis of tranquility, health and balance.

We offer a myriad of options to enchant your taste buds. Try the thali (it literally means plate) which consists of 2 sabjis (vegetable dishes), rice, chapattis, and a side salad. If you prefer the more conventional, choose a pizza, lasagna, veggie burger, egg-free quiche or one of our delicious spinach rolls, all of which can be served with salad.

There are at least 10 different types of fresh salads available. Try creations like mango, celery and walnut salad caprese, or fried and marinated courgette and eggplant. You can also sample our simple salads like beetroot, potato or even mixed green. If available, you should try the tahini dressing, it´s delicious!

We are yet to come across someone who has been able to resist the lure of the sweet dish counter! We have a selection of English treats such as home-made ice cream, cheesecakes and gateaux or try traditional Indian items such as sweet rice, laddhu (gram flour sweets) and barfis (condensed milk balls).

Karma Free Diet

All of our menu items are available as take-away, so even if you are in a rush or have just popped out from the office to grab a bite, you can experience the mercy of Lord Krishna!

“Pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff”
Posted Oct 27, 2009: Visited Govinda’s a while ago with my mum and sister. The vegan options are limited and were both spicy when we visited. The staff were friendly, and the food was simple but good. No vegan desserts! Nice atmosphere, great location – very close to Oxford Street.

Vegetarian food. Its worth going just for the desserts. All cakes and puddings are eggless. Food is freshly prepared. This is a cafeteria for devotees of the Iskon temple attached hence no alcohol on the premises. Atmosphere is relaxed.

Tasty vegetarian fare‎

We had read about Govinda’s and stumbled upon it quite by accident. The lasagna was tasty and very filling. The restaurant is somewhat self-serve cafeteria style. The prices were very reasonable (for London!) The atmosphere was restful after a long day of sightseeing.‎

Good food, good people‎

As a strict vegetarian this is my only choice when i visit London (the vegan Thai place I also used to go to nearby has closed down due to lack of hygiene). Govinda’s food is a tasty and ecclectic mix of indian dishes, pizzas, pastry, cold european salads, cakes, teas juices. Filtered tap water is openly offered free (which is a very rare thing in restaurants). Staff, mostly eastern europeans and indians, are very friendly. Atmosphere can go from peaceful to bustling depending on the time of the day. Prices are somewhat confusing and you can end up paying a very hefty bill if you order items individually instead of by set menus (thalis). The service at the pay desk can be very slow (the cashier also makes teas, serves cakes, answers the phone, and the card machine takes forever, etc.). But overall I would definitely recommend. Worth mentioning, the place is owned and run by Krishna monks and if you are into spirituality, above the restaurant is a very beautiful (in architecture and atmosphere) temple where there is a ‘free’ lunch programs (philosophical presentation followed by a meal) in the week. Expect to be asked for a donation. Only in London can you feed your stomach and your soul all in one place. Ciao :o)

Very unassuming place, both inside and out, but boy is this a fantastic vegetarian Indian. Im certainly no expert in Indian food, but having spent a few months eating my way around India Id like to think I have a reasonable grasp of the real deal, and this place is the most authentic Indian Ive had outside India – even down to the …‎
