The ISKCON Amara service is a new service to be launched on the 12th of May 2018 as a National Service in the UK under the direction of the GBC National Office.
The service will be launched through a free seminar for the ISKCON community which will seek to demystify end of life choices in medical care, cremation as well as legal & financial planning. It will also cover service requirements and support systems. The seminar will take place at ISKCON Leicester.
We all know death is certain. With recent events of young devotees leaving their bodies followed by several Srila Prabhupada’s disciples also leaving in quick succession, it is more evident then ever that this service is urgently required so that we can all know and understand how to assist our communities and families appropriately at this time of utmost need.
Despite reading so many books written by Srila Prabhupada and listening to so many lectures by ISKCON’s renowned speakers, the news of death can still be accompanied by a feeling of shock and grief. Therefore having all necessary information beforehand along with appropriate plans in place, families can avoid added grief and confusion at an already very difficult time.
“Always think of Me and become My devotee. Worship me and offer your homage unto Me. Thus you will come to Me without fail. I promise you this because you are My very dear friend.†(18.65)
ISKCON UK has opted to work in collaboration with the NHS Royal Salford Hospital in Manchester and have adopted the Swan protocol which is a highly respected service of excellence that respects each persons rights and desires during their final journey. While we have our own specific faith and belief system as given to us by Srila Prabhupada, the Swan protocol very much suits our spiritual values.
The seminar will cover a wide variety of areas to prepare you so that all anxieties are eased and you can better deal with the end of life situation when it happens.
“For the soul there is never birth nor death. Nor, having once been, does he ever cease to be. He is unborn, eternal, ever existing, undying and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain.†(2.20)
Some questions covered in the seminar:
How to support someone in their final days?
What to do when your loved one passes away?
Is it better to leave your body in a holy Dham?
How important is a funeral plan?
Are your assets invested wisely and are they safe?
The topics covered are not just for the elderly and retired members of our community because as we all know, death can occur to anyone at anytime. However once you have solid answers to these questions and plans in place, the more secure you and your family will feel.
Unfortunately most of us tend to procrastinate when it comes to this important area of our life. The beauty of this seminar is that you can get all the information you need in one place, in just a few short hours.
“And whoever, at the time of death, quits his body, remembering Me alone, at once attains My nature. Of this there is no doubt.†(8.5)
This free seminar is solely for disseminating information. There will be no solicitation for business, nor will anything be sold. The professionals making presentations on the day see this as an opportunity to give back to their community. All speakers are volunteering their time, energy and knowledge free of charge.
“As the embodied soul continually passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. The self-realized soul is not bewildered by such a change.†(2.13)
