The evening news is populated with stories of war, famine and injustice from every part of the world; be they ‘civilised’ or ‘third world’. The resolution of one conflict gives rise to another. We have now become so used to this we accept the struggles of those in need of food, shelter and basic health care as the norm. At Tattva we disagree; we believe the norm is that everyone should be happy.
Historians date the Vedas, the ancient scriptures of India, to approximately 2000 BC. Further, recent archaeological finds estimate Vedic civilisation to have existed far earlier than recorded Egyptian civilisation. The teachings are profound prescribing, amongst many other things, how to achieve peace and harmony in society.
In this course we will look at contemporary issues and how they can be resolved using these Vedic principles. How can we rid the world of war? If the animal world always has sufficient food to eat, why are humans dying of starvation?
This course consists of the following four sessions:
1. Religion, War & terrorism
A look into the actual causes of war and terrorism. Is religion to blame? How accountable are we on an individual level.
2. The ‘Love’ Vacuum
A word bandied around indiscriminately. An effort will be made to understand the true import of the word and the characteristics of genuine love.
3. Spiritual Environmentalism
A world climate in crisis, millions starving and many more disease-ridden. The outlook seems bleak. Learn what spirituality brings to the table.
4. Trapped in the Web
New technological developments are unveiled almost daily. Do the proclaimed benefits really offer greater quality of life? What does a simple life of substance really entail.
