CLASS   STYLES

All classes are suitable for complete beginners - we encourage everyone to work to their own ability, whatever it may be. However if you have medical problems please check with your doctor or therapist before coming to a class!

 

Atma Yoga classes offer four distinct styles of yoga, linked together with underlying technologies that are exclusive to Atma Yoga. Asana (posture), Pranayama (breathing exercise), Mudra (hand gestures), Bandha and Mantra are the foundation of all Hatha Yoga, including Atma Yoga. A rarefied energy- considered to be the most powerful and transformative force on the planet-called Visnu Tattva Tantra (also known as Bhakti-Sakti) increases the influence of Atma Yoga exponentially. Power Yoga - a sequence of asanas (yoga postures) designed to strengthen the entire body (especially the back), increase flexibility, regain internal balance, and energize you completely. It will build your stamina and determination, as well as improving your ability to focus and concentrate. The set also has a detoxifying effect on the entire body, both physically and energetically. A great class if you are looking for a good workout for body and mind.
Slow-Deep-Stretch - this class is composed of long, deep stretches. It opens the hips, grounds and centers you, releases undue stress, and massages your whole nervous system. Atma Yoga increases the benefits of this style with the use of exclusive pranic technologies and sound vibrations. These classes engender an experience of total relaxation, allowing your body and mind to recover from the stresses of daily life - perfect for the end of the week! As well as relieving the effects of chronic stress in the body, these classes balance and condition the central nervous system, improving your long-term resiliance to stress in everyday affairs.
Kundalini Chakra - the science of prana or energy is at the heart of this yoga. These classes mechanically rebuild the energy field of your body; rewiring you for increased strength, confidence, and serenity. Great for building inner strength, overcoming obstacles or energy blocks, balancing the mind and emotions, shifting negative habits and patterns, channelling ambition and desire, improving resilience to the stress and pressures of work, study, family, etc. These classes use dynamic postures (known as kriya or drutasana) combined with breath work and mantra to give the student a transformative, healing and re-connective experience.
Slow-Deep-Aerobic - a fun class beginning with 15 minutes non-impact aerobic exercise to get the heart-rate going, leading into an enhanced experience of the long, luxurious yoga stretches that make up the rest of the class. This class has all the benefits of Slow-Deep-Stretch (as described above), plus the added bonus that aerobic exercise brings to the heart and circulation.
Mantra Therapy
