{"id":402,"date":"2010-10-24T13:37:57","date_gmt":"2010-10-24T13:37:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iskconuk.com\/?p=402"},"modified":"2010-10-24T13:41:01","modified_gmt":"2010-10-24T13:41:01","slug":"latest-gbc-thoughts-on%e2%80%a6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/iskconuk.com\/?p=402","title":{"rendered":"Latest GBC Thoughts On\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While our acaryas glorify the exemplary personalities from scripture famed for their successful or failed attempt\u00e2\u20ac\u201dJunior Haridasa\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s suicide after disappointing Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Sati\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s suicide due to the dishonor shown her husband, and Raghunatha Dasa Goswami\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s repeated attempts at suicide due to being unable to bear the pain of separation from Lord Caitanya\u00e2\u20ac\u201dthey are rare and exceptionally advanced personalities whose behavior is not to be mimicked by those who are emotionally and mentally disturbed by the pangs of material life.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, while Srila Prabhupada refers to Srila Raghunatha dasa Goswami\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s suicidal leap from Govardhana as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153a system of suicide especially performed by saintly persons,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he forthrightly rejects the notion of suicide as a solution to material suffering: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153A confused, frustrated man cannot get relief by committing suicide because suicide will simply lead him to take birth in the lower species of life or to remain a ghost, unable to attain a gross material body.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/strong> <em>(SB 4.26.10)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/iskconuk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/SS-2010-10-24_15.39.14.jpg\" alt=\"\"  align=\"left\" border=\"10\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"10\" \/><\/p>\n<p> While it is certain that a devotee who has sincerely served the Lord will not suffer the same material fate as a non-devotee, still it is clear that suicide is only an option for the saintly devotees suffering extreme vipralambha-bhava, or those afflicted by the mode of ignorance and the gross material energy. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu made it clear to Sanatana Goswami that one cannot attain Krsna by taking his own life, and were it possible to do so, He would willingly give up millions of bodies without a moment\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s hesitation, telling Sanatana Goswami, <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Krsna is attainable by devotional service.
