Everyone will remember the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on 12th January. Nearly 200,000 people were buried alive and tens of thousands of homes have been destroyed and people\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s livelihoods devastated.<\/p>\n
The Lotus Trust, the welfare arm of Bhaktivedanta Manor, is working with partner food relief organisations with an ISKCON centre in nearby Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n
ISKCON is providing volunteer support from around the world, amongst them is Vaikuntha Krishna das and Robin Laing from the Manor. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t even think about whether I would go or not\u00e2\u20ac\u201dstraight away my heart went for it,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d explained Vaikuntha Krishna das, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It is a human instinct to help people, that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all I thought about. We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re working with other volunteers in order to provide hot meals for thousands of people a day.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d
\nFood for Life Global have established a secure camp site for food distribution in Port-Au-Prince and are partnering with Water for Life Global who are providing sanitation service.

\nOther devotees are distributing lunches to earthquake survivors who are now being cared for in the Dr. Dario Contreras Hospital in Santo Domingo. Volunteers prepare the food and then package them to be handed out at the hospital, which specializes in trauma.<\/p>\n
